Stunning exhibition of Wichí art in Lisburn

Wednesday November 4th 2026

We stopped by the R-Space Gallery, Castle Street, Lisburn, to take a look at the excellent ‘Connected’ exhibition of Wichí art from Northern Argentina.

The artwork – the colours of which have to be seen in person to be fully appreciated – is beautifully displayed alongside text outlining the background to the exhibition, which aims to promote understanding of the cultures of the Wichí in connection with their knowledge of the natural environment.

Curated by Dr Fiona Clarke from Queen’s University Belfast, the exhibition also highlights some of the less-known historical connections between Ireland and the Wichí, particularly within the Anglican tradition, that continue to this day.

The exhibition is being hosted by Queen’s in association with SAMS (the South American Mission Society) and the Northern Argentina based SIWOK Foundation.

Connor Diocese is currently working with SAMS to support the Diocese of North Argentina. Launched as a Lent Project earlier this year, the project is continuing through the Harvest season and into Advent.

The exhibition, which is free to visit, opened on October 31 and will run Tuesday-Saturday (11am-5pm) until November 13.
